Due to inclement weather, Bowie State University will be closed January 26-27, 2026. All classes, office operations and on-campus activities are canceled. Residence halls will remain open. Credentials and Licensure

Students interested in careers in social work can pursue education through the doctoral level. The following degrees are available:

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) (BSSW)*
Master of Social Work (MSW)
Doctor of Social Work (DSW)
Doctor of Philosphy (PhD) in Social Work

Professional social workers must be certified by the Maryland Licensure Board after obtaining a degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education

Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) - Master of Social Work

Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) - Master of Social Work
