The Office of Continuing Education & External Programs supports a wide range of educational opportunities designed to meet the needs of students, professionals and community members. Our office oversees non-credit academic programs, supports off-campus academic activities and assists individuals who would like to take courses without pursuing a degree.
Continuing Education is designed for individuals seeking personal enrichment, professional development or career advancement through coursework without entering a degree program. Our office assists with the non-degree application process, initial course registration and access to the resources needed to support your academic and professional goals.

Non-Degree Continuing Education
Continuing Education Courses
This office works with individuals who would like to take courses for continued education or personal or career advancement without the entry into a degree program. We process the non-degree application, work with you on the initial course and ensure that you have the tools you will need to reach your educational and professional goals.

This partnership allows Prince George’s County Public Schools juniors and seniors to enroll in Bowie State University courses. Selected courses may count towards high school graduation requirements. Tuition is covered by PGCPS, while families are responsible for associated fees. Students in the Free and Reduced Meals program may also have covered fees.

Bowie State University offers a variety of programs, services and resources that federal workers can access for support.

More Continuing Education Offerings
The Weekend College for Conditional Licensed Teachers is an extension of the Summer Institute for Conditional Licensed Teachers. It is designed to support CLTs by providing weekend-long intensive courses pertinent to their transcript audit. Weekend courses are scheduled for Fridays: 5 - 9 p.m. and Saturdays & Sundays: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. based on specific needs of enrolled CLTs.
Winter and Summer School Sessions
The Office of Continuing Education & External Programs coordinates winter and summer course schedules in collaboration with academic departments. We support course development, scheduling and publication to ensure smooth delivery of sessions.
Portfolio Program
The Portfolio Program allows students to earn academic credit by documenting prior work and life experience that aligns with course learning outcomes. This option can help students reduce time to degree completion.
Non-Credit Courses and Programs
Bowie State University is developing and expanding non-credit offerings that support professional development and lifelong learning for the broader community.
The Military Resource Center, our Veterans Center, is located in Suite 1126 of the Thurgood Marshall Library. Here, students who have served or are currently serving in the military can find answers and solutions to issues, concerns and problems or a location to network and fellowship with colleagues and peers. The MRC serves as the point of contact for assistance in resolving issues and concerns associated with matriculating at BSU. It is also home of the Student Veterans Association.
Partnerships
Bowie State University and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education Dual Enrollment Program
This program serves Washington, DC students enrolled in public and charter schools and allows them to take Bowie State University courses while still in high school. Tuition is covered for eligible participants.
