Jan. 28 Transition to Virtual Operations, Campus Closed

Bowie State University will be transitioning to virtual operations for all classes and office operations on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The campus will be closed to all non-essential personnel, and all campus activities are canceled. All buildings except residence halls will be closed. Essential personnel should report on time. This is due to the extended time required to clear the extensive snow and ice accumulation on campus. University crews are making every effort to resume campus operations, as a safe return to in-person learning and work remains our top priority. Only essential personnel and residential students are permitted access to the campus on Jan. 28. For more information, please visit BowieState.edu/weather.

Student Advising

Academic Advising in the Department of Computer Science

Each of the students had an assigned faculty adviser. The information on who your adviser is in Bulldog Connection. You are required to reach out to your advisor for course advising. The advisor and the student share the responsibility of actively participating in the process of academic advisement. Initiate contact with your faculty advisor early in the semester.

Come prepared to your advising sessions with a potential schedule for the upcoming semester. Always read your BSU e-mail and other important communication tools provided by BSU and/or your faculty advisor. Know the Academic Calendar. Do not miss deadlines: know when to register and when to drop/add each semesterSchedule courses consistent with those required for your major/minor/second major in order to meet graduation requirements.

If you cannot find your faculty advisor, please reach out to Professional Adviser for the Department of Computer Science, who sits in the front office on Tuesday and Thursday from 08:00 to 5:00 pm, Professor Hughes (phuges@bowiestate.edu).

The department hires its own students to serve as tutors for our student population.  Both undergraduate and graduate tutors are available and can be found in either the open lab on the first floor of the Computer Science Building (CSB), room 212, or in the chair's office on the second floor, suite 207. Peer-to-peer tutoring can have a positive impact on student performance. Plus, the Student Success Center can offer tutoring support. They focus primarily in the domains of science, engineering and mathematics (SEM) in the PRISEM Tutoring center.
