Biography
A native of Varina, Virginia (near Richmond), Dr. Holmes has served a Music Educator at Bowie State University since 1984. Receiving her full Professorship in 1998, Dr. Holmes also served the university community as University Choir Director from 1989 to 2023, and Vice President of the Faculty Senate in 2005. As a Lyric Coloratura Soprano, Dr. Holmes has been a featured concert artist at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C, having performed as soloist with the Paul Hill Chorale, the Washington Oratorio Society, The National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Opera, and the Washington Choral Arts Society. Making her Carnegie Hall debut in 1988 singing the Soprano Solo in Johannes Brahms Eines Deutches Requiem with the Manhattan Philharmonic Orchestra, she has gone on to perform as featured artist in Mexico City, Mexico, Bogota, Colombia, Siena, Italy Innsbruck, Austria, and Stokholm, Sweden.
