Jan. 28-30 Virtual Operations, Campus Remains Closed

Bowie State University will continue with virtual operations for all classes and office operations through Friday, January 30, 2026. The campus will be closed to all non-essential personnel, and all campus activities are canceled. All buildings except residence halls and the dining hall will be closed. Essential personnel should report on time. This is due to the extended time required to clear the extensive snow and ice accumulation on campus. University crews are making every effort to resume campus operations, as a safe return to in-person learning and work remains our top priority. Seasonal Safety Tips From BSU's Police Chief

Happy Holidays! As we begin to prepare for the holiday and winter season, I encourage everyone to be more vigilant and prepared as you leave the campus. This is is a joyous time of the year and many people will be out shopping and participating in various activities. Listed below are some things to consider to ensure your safety:

Stay Alert

  • Keep your purse close to your body while out.
  • Keep your wallet in an inside coat pocket or front pant pocket
  • Shop with a friend or in groups
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times. If someone looks suspicious, avoid going to your car or wait for that person to leave
  • Do not leave packages within view in your vehicle. Keep package out of sight in the trunk of your vehicle
  • Do not carry large sums of money. Use debit or credit card if possible
  • Do not remove multiple packages from your vehicle by yourself. Have someone with you, or remove 1-2 packages at a time

Prepare Your Car for Winter

Winter storms and cold temperatures can be extremely dangerous. Stay safe and healthy by planning ahead. If you are prepared for the hazards of winter, you are more likely to stay safe and healthy when temperatures start to fall.

Follow these tips to get your car ready for cold weather use before winter arrives:

  • Service the radiator and maintain antifreeze level
  • Check tire tread or, if necessary, replace tires with all-weather or snow tires
  • Keep gas tank full to avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines
  • Use a wintertime formula in your windshield washer fluid
  • Prepare a winter emergency kit to keep in your car in case you become stranded. The kit should include:
    • cell phone, portable charger, and extra batteries
    • blankets
    • food and water
    • booster cables, flares, tire pump, and a bag of sand or cat litter (for traction)
    • flashlight, battery-powered radio, and extra batteries
    • first-aid kit
    • plastic bags (for sanitation)
