Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning
Welcome to the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Welcome to the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Bowie State University. CETL serves as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and professional growth for the university’s teaching community. Our mission is to support faculty in advancing teaching excellence, strengthening student learning, and exploring innovative approaches to pedagogy.
Under the leadership of Dr. Eva Garin, CETL works in partnership with a cohort of faculty fellows representing each college across the university. This collaborative model ensures that diverse disciplinary perspectives inform CETL programming, initiatives, and professional development opportunities. Together, this network of faculty leaders helps cultivate a culture of teaching excellence, scholarly inquiry into pedagogy, and shared commitment to student success.
Through a variety of programs, workshops, consultations, and campus initiatives, CETL provides opportunities for faculty to strengthen instructional practices, integrate emerging technologies, and engage in meaningful professional development. CETL also fosters cross-disciplinary dialogue, allowing faculty to share ideas, examine evidence-based teaching strategies, and explore new approaches to learning.
Whether you are a new faculty member beginning your teaching journey or an experienced educator seeking fresh perspectives, CETL offers resources and programs designed to support your continued growth and impact in the classroom.
We invite you to explore our programs, connect with colleagues, and join us in advancing a vibrant culture of teaching and learning at Bowie State University.
Quick Guide:
Prior to the start of each Fall and Spring semester, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) hosts the Faculty Institute—a signature event that brings together Bowie State University faculty, staff, and leadership for a shared experience in professional development, skill building, and community engagement. The Institute serves as a vital touchpoint in the academic year, designed to strengthen teaching practices, inspire innovation, and advance the university’s collective pursuit of excellence.
In addition to engaging workshops and discussions, the Faculty Institute features distinguished guest presenters, opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration, and meaningful peer-to-peer learning. Participants leave with fresh perspectives, practical strategies, and renewed energy for the semester ahead.
