Jan. 28-30 Virtual Operations, Campus Remains Closed

Bowie State University will continue with virtual operations for all classes and office operations through Friday, January 30, 2026. The campus will be closed to all non-essential personnel, and all campus activities are canceled. All buildings except residence halls and the dining hall will be closed. Essential personnel should report on time. This is due to the extended time required to clear the extensive snow and ice accumulation on campus. University crews are making every effort to resume campus operations, as a safe return to in-person learning and work remains our top priority. Course Sequencing

To earn the Master of Arts in Teaching, you must take the following five core courses (15 credit hours):

  • EDUC 501: Learning and Teaching
  • EDUC 507: Adv. Human Growth & Development
  • EDUC 510: Tests and Measurements
  • SPED 511: Special Education Perspectives
  • EDUC 532: Classroom Practices and Procedures
  • EDUC 543: Curriculum and Technology

Research Courses

You must also take a research course:

  • EDUC 601: Research Methods and Skills

Reading Course Requirements

If you choose the elementary track, you’ll earn 12 credits in these four reading courses:

  • EDUC 560: Processes and Acquisition
  • EDUC 646: Diagnostic and Prescriptive Techniques of Reading
  • EDUC 544: Principles and Techniques of Reading Instruction
  • EDUC 633: Children’s Literature

The secondary track requires six credit hours of reading, or a total of two courses:

  • SCED 748: Literacy in the Content Area I
  • SCED 545: Literacy in the Content Area II
