Maryland HBCU Environmental & Climate Justice Legislative Summit

The Summit is designed to expose students to the tenets of effective climate policy, inform them of career opportunities in the climate policy space, and shine a light on environmental injustices throughout Maryland.

Bowie State University is proud to host the 4th Annual Prince George’s County Summit! This exciting day is packed with interactive rotations, engaging presentations, dynamic speakers, vendors, and fun, enriching experiences designed just for PGCPS high school students.

The summit offers students a unique opportunity to explore career paths, develop leadership and advocacy skills, and dive into contemporary environmental research — all in a hands-on, inspiring environment. Don’t miss this chance to learn, connect, and be inspired!

Maryland Climate Teach-In 2026 Celebration at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute

Join BSU Green Ambassadors & Office of Sustainability at the 3rd event celebrating the kickoff of the Maryland Climate Teach-in held at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, home of this year's Climate teach-in spokesperson. BSU will take part in the event featuring student group discussions, lunch, presentations & other activities. The event is coordinated through the Maryland Commission on Climate Change, where Mr. Walker, BSU's Sustainability Manager is co-chair.

Braveboy Climate Leadership Summit

Bowie State will host this first time summit led by the office of PG County Executive Aisha Braveboy, to empower Prince George’s County leaders to recognize their role in climate action, understand the tools available to them, and collaborate on practical, equity-centered strategies to build a climate-ready future. This is open to all in the BSU community.

BSU student volunteers will work together to ensure trash is collected on certain parts of the campus following Homecoming game day to keep our campus and community clean.

In celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, a global campaign that raises awareness of migratory birds and issues related to their conservation, BSU is planning a day of activities held at the nearby Patuxent Refuge including a guided bird walk w/ provided binoculars, a live screech owl, interactive activities and exhibits and the exploration of the trails and bodies of water on the Refuge

Peace Park Restoration Service Day

Join BSU's Office of Sustainability and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay in a 2 hour volunteer initiative to plant native trees and shrubs in BSU's Peace Park as part of it's ongoing restoration.

This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.  Services will be provided by Briar Patch Shredding & Recycling LLC, which destroyed paper material on site on the truck from two campus locations.

Maryland’s Climate Pathway Public Forum

Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 6-8 p.m.  | Location- JEP 102

BSU serves as host for the first public outreach session for the presentation of Maryland's Climate Pathway report by the Maryland Dept of the Environment and Center for Global Sustainability (Univ of Maryland). The session seeks feedback from all Marylanders on how the state will meet ambitious climate goals to be used in the final plan submitted to Gov Moore & the General Assembly.

Earth Month 2024

Earth Day 2024 is Monday, April 22. In the past, BSU has traditionally celebrated the days surrounding Earth Day with a series of events known as "Earth Week." Now we have advanced this effort and expanded offerings throughout the entire month of April. Therefore, the Office of Sustainability with C4, our BSU Student Green Ambassadors, and our partner - Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay will celebrate EARTH MONTH. This year’s global Earth Day theme is "Planet vs. Plastics."
